Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance (GHIAA)
In 2016, the Christian Activities Council (now called the Center for Leadership and Justice, CLJ) extended an invitation to Greater Hartford houses of faith to explore establishing a broad based social justice initiative for churches, synagogues, mosques, and meeting houses. The goal was to build a diverse organization of lay leaders and clergy from across boundaries of race, class, gender identity, religion and geography, to build relational power to address social justice issues in local communities and beyond. Now called the Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance (GHIAA), a founding event was held on October 28, 2019 with 1500 people in attendance.
GHIAA presently has 53 dues paying member organizations and Hartford Meeting (HMM) is one of those organizations. Through our Core Team and issue research teams, HMM continues to support and participate in GHIAA, advocating for changes that protect and support disadvantaged people. Meeting members participated in the GHIAA Power Summit in November 2024, an event that presented and obtained state congressional support for their 2025 objectives targeting Immigrant Rights, Environmental Justice, Combating Racial & Religious Hate, Housing Affordability, and Fiscal Policy Reform.
